Prosimii-Layout (en)

The Prosimii layout is a nice, professionel looking webpage template which was placed into the public domain by its original author Haran Sivakumaran. I made some patches to improve the overall design.

Patches

Footer at the end of the page

I wanted to have a footer at the end of the page. If the page content does not fill the entire screen, the footer should be at least at the bottom of the visible screen. footer patch

Centered links in the title bar

The navigation links for an alternate/printer friendly layout in the blue title bar at the top are not placed in the middle of the bar. As I sometimes hide the dark blue bar at the top, this became very annoying to me. Therefore my second patch is used to place these two links exactely in the middle of the blue bar. header link patch

The Open Source Web Design fork

The Prosimii design used to be available through oswd.org, a web site which hosted many free templates. In October 2005 there was a quarrel between the two administrators of oswd.org. As usual the whole truth is probably hidden below the statements of both parties.

The catalyst was seemingly that the old hosting provider brought oswd.org down due to excessive traffic use. After that, the two administrators of oswd.org, Francis "Frank" Skettino and Aaron "MonkeyMan" Nikula, did not work together to bring oswd.org back online but decided to fork the project.

Frank, added a place holder page at oswd.org where he accused Aaron of deleting the whole OSWD database. Aaron told in a forum posting that Frank didn't work together with him to bring back oswd.org.

One critical point seems to be that Frank uses oswd.org to promote his own web design business (with a prominently placed link called "premium designs") and the money was not shared between the two.

Since November 11, 2005 there are now two open web design platforms

I like Aaron's page better because you can download the Prosimii layout there, the overall layout looks nicer and there is no "premium designs" link but I think neither of the pages will go away. At least the quarrel is continuing (forum post by Frank aka "bkenoah").
